NORTH EAST CROWNED 2010 REGIONAL CHAMPIONS
The North East Seniors battled to a well-deserved victory over South West at Derby RFC on Sunday afternoon. After a programme of two training sessions and three matches, four teams progressed to the Finals Day. In the first match, third place Thames Valley beat fourth place East 22 – 5 to confirm their standings. North East improved on last year’s performance of reaching the 3rd/4th play off, by making the Final this year and doing themselves proud by sealing the win over South West, with a scoreline of 24-15. Tries for the North East came from Lucy Meadley, Claire Nicholas and two from Jenny Edwards, with Lisa Ritchie converting two.
The RFUW Regional Programme, in its final season, was hit hard by the adverse weather that England endured during January, but thanks to the commitment and perseverance of the players, volunteers and host match and training venues, the programme was completed on schedule.
The Programme has been replaced by Divisional Rugby within the new RFUW Player Pathway, which will commence in the 2010/11 season. CB Representative Rugby will be formally recognised within the Player Pathway, and the RFUW is currently working with RFU colleagues and other partners to put the new programme in place. Further details about CB and Divisional Representative Rugby will be available over the course of the next few months.
